For authors / JW Book website sales

Author royalty policy

Know your share of each book sale, when it becomes eligible for payment, and how to follow your payouts.

Policy explanation updated: 7 October 2026. The rates below show the current settings for new sales.

E-book sales

Your share is calculated from the recorded amount paid for the e-book purchase.

70%author share / 30% JW share

Payable after payment verification.

Hardcopy sales

Your share is calculated from the order total including delivery charges.

70%author share / 30% JW share

Payment must be verified and the order delivered.

These rules cover e-book and hardcopy sales recorded on the JW Book website. For sales through another retailer or a separate publishing arrangement, contact our team to confirm the applicable terms.

How your royalty is calculated

Author royalty = royalty base × the author rate recorded for that sale. Amounts are rounded to two decimal places. The examples below use INR; balances in different currencies are kept separate.

Example: an INR 100 e-book purchase

Verified purchase amount
INR 100.00
Author share (70%)
INR 70.00
JW share
INR 30.00

Example: an INR 1,100 hardcopy order

Books + delivery
INR 1,000.00 + 100.00
Royalty base
INR 1,100.00
Author share (70%)
INR 770.00
JW share
INR 330.00

The author share remains on hold until the paid order is delivered.

From a sale to a payout

Being eligible for a payout does not mean the transfer is complete. Our team prepares the payout, makes the transfer using the agreed payment method, and records the payment date and reference once it is complete.

On hold
A paid hardcopy is awaiting delivery, or a changed sale amount or currency needs review. These earnings cannot be paid out yet.
Eligible earnings
The sale meets the payment and delivery requirements. Your available balance excludes amounts already paid or reserved for a pending payout.
Pending payout
An amount has been reserved for payment to you. It is not counted as paid until the completed transfer is recorded.
Paid
The team has recorded the completed transfer with its payment date and reference. The payout remains in your royalty records.

You can review recorded earnings, held amounts and payouts in your author dashboard, and download a statement for each book. Contact our team to confirm payout arrangements and the expected transfer date for your account.

Refunds, cancellations and rate changes

  • Refunded purchases and cancelled hardcopy orders do not remain eligible for royalties. Affected earnings are reversed.
  • If an earning is reversed after a payout, the amount is offset against future eligible earnings. This can make the available balance negative.
  • Cancelling a pending payout releases its reservation. It does not remove the underlying sale or erase the payout history.
  • Each recorded earning keeps its author rate, royalty base and currency. A new rate applies to future sales; it does not recalculate existing earnings, including hardcopies already on hold.
  • Historical sales imported without an earlier rate record use the policy available when first imported. These entries are marked as imported in the ledger.

Publication fees, similarity-check fees and other service payments are separate from book-sale royalties. Paying a publication fee does not itself create a royalty earning.
